ISTON, a subsidiary of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, built a 155 square meter building in a week using 3D technology.
Ekrem İmamoğlu, the mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, said that this technology enables fast, low-cost, safe and new designs.
Key Global’s CEO Ahmet Muratlı said that 3D printing machines entering our lives in various occasions on the other hand presents new opportunities for business entities. Construction industry seem compelling to adapt new manufacturing technologies on site however 3D printers could take a part in reducing cost efficiently.
However, there are 3d printers that can build houses in 24 hours. Apis Cor is a Russian company specializing in 3D printers who can produce a contour crafted home in just 24 hours. Not only that, but the machines can also work in winter, they just have to be covered. 3D printers can be easily transported to the building site and within 30 minutes it’s ready to build your future house. The concrete is a special mix that hardens fast, allowing the printer to work fast.
3D Printing in Construction
3D printing is the computer-controlled sequential layering of materials to create three-dimensional shapes. It is particularly useful for prototyping and for the manufacture of geometrically complex components.
In the construction industry, 3D printing can be used to create construction components or to ‘print’ entire buildings. Construction is well-suited to 3D printing as much of the information necessary to create an item will exist as a result of the design process, and the industry is already experienced in computer aided manufacturing. The recent emergence of building information modelling (BIM) in particular may facilitate greater use of 3D printing.
Benefits of 3D Printing for Construction
Construction 3D printing may allow, faster and more accurate construction of complex or bespoke items as well as lowering labour costs and producing less waste. It might also enable construction to be undertaken in harsh or dangerous environments not suitable for a human workforce such as in space.
